Overview Overview: OAS is a fast-paced, deadline-driven, customer service-focused environment. NCAS and UC-N together are the largest undergraduate unit at Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N). OAS currently serves over 19 departments and programs within SASN as well as departments in the other academic units. Thus, the position assists, impacts, influences large number of students, currently over 5,000. Work is performed in a manner that furthers the mission of OAS, SASN, and RU-N and contributes to strategic goals.
Posting Summary Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a General Advisor, Office of Academic Services. Reporting directly to Assistant Dean for General Advisement & Academic Integrity, the General Advisor provides support to the Office of Academic Services by providing the following, and not limited to:
  • Assists with general advisement and information sharing to students;
  • Assists the General Advising team, which includes data entry, student outreach, compiling data and reports, and advisement of students;
  • May complete other duties as assigned, such as assisting with special events in the office;
  • Works within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, customer service-focused environment.
  • Records attendance at and participates in evening and weekend activities as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
